We ran all 1200 settings of EVWMA VWAP MACD Strategy [QuantNomad] on BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP across 15m, 30m, 1h and 4h over the past 90 days, with the 0.11% fee per trade included. The clearest pattern was timeframe.

Where it worked best: BTC 1h, where 100% of settings (75 of 75) ended positive after fees.

Why timeframe: fees

Every trade pays 0.11%, so the more often a setting trades, the more the fee takes out of its result. 15m: settings averaged 271 trades, about 29.9 percentage points in fees, and none were positive even before fees. 30m: settings averaged 162 trades, so fees took about 17.8 percentage points, and 55% of the settings that were positive before fees stayed positive after. 1h: settings averaged 87 trades, so fees took about 9.6 percentage points, and 98% of the settings that were positive before fees stayed positive after. 4h: settings averaged 31 trades, so fees took about 3.4 percentage points, and 86% of the settings that were positive before fees stayed positive after.

BB (Bollinger Bands) behaved very differently by timeframe. Over the past 90 days, 90% of setting combinations finished positive after fees on 4h, but only 11% did on 15m. We ran all 1,400 setting combinations on 10 coins (BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, BNB, DOGE, ADA, LINK, SUI and HYPE) across 15m, 30m, 1h and 4h, with a 0.11% fee taken out of every trade. The figures in this post are as of 2026-10-17, and every result is recomputed nightly with fresh data. What does BB actually measure? Bollinger Bands (BB) are a volatility tool developed by John Bollinger.
