BB+RSI Best Settings for 1h: Default vs Top Settings Backtested (Fees Included)

Is the default BB+RSI (Bollinger + RSI Double Strategy, ChartArt v1.1) good enough? TradingView loads BB+RSI with 200 · 2 · 6 out of the box, so we checked how those exact inputs held up in the latest market. We ran all 1,000 setting combinations on 10 coins (BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, BNB, DOGE, ADA, LINK, SUI and HYPE) across 15m, 30m, 1h and 4h, with a 0.11% fee taken out of every trade. The figures in this post are as of 2026-10-25, and every result is recomputed nightly with fresh data.

What is BB+RSI?

BB+RSI is a ChartArt strategy on TradingView built around a “double” condition: it acts only when Bollinger Bands and the Relative Strength Index give a signal on the same bar. Bollinger Bands center on a simple moving average of the close with bands a set number of standard deviations away, while RSI turns the ratio of recent gains to losses into a 0 to 100 momentum reading.

The buy side needs two things on one bar: the close crossing back up through the lower band, and RSI crossing above 50. The sell side is the close crossing back down through the upper band while RSI crosses below 50. With two filters stacked, signals are relatively rare, and pairing a long band length with a short RSI length checks the broad range and short-term momentum at the same time.

What does each BB+RSI setting change?

  • Bollinger length (bb_len) — Lookback for the basis (SMA of close) and the standard deviation. Default 200
  • StdDev multiplier (bb_mult) — How many standard deviations the bands sit from the basis. Default 2.0
  • RSI length (rsi_len) — RSI lookback; the signal uses RSI crossing 50. Default 6

TradingView default: 200 · 2 · 6. Backtest rule used here: Long and short, stop-and-reverse. Go long when, on the same bar, the close crosses above the lower band and RSI crosses above 50; flip short when the close crosses below the upper band and RSI crosses below 50. Signals at bar close, fills at the next bar's open.

How did the default 200 · 2 · 6 do?

On 1h, the default 200 · 2 · 6 did best on ADA at +59.80%, and finished positive after fees on 4 of 10 coins. On 1h, the default averaged +2.26% while the strongest setting combination under the same conditions hit +87.39%: a 85.1-point difference.

How much does the timeframe matter?

30m-11.36%41%8

The positive share peaked on 1h (55%) and bottomed on 4h (24%). More frequent trading meant a heavier fee drag. 4h averaged 0 trades, so fees alone took about 0.0 points; 1h averaged 3 trades and about 0.4 points.

What did the highest setting combinations return?

The three highest-returning setting combinations on 1h.

One high result on its own can be a short lucky streak. The indicator analysis page shows whether nearby setting combinations held up too.

How should you read these results?

Return alone hides a lot. With few trades, a handful of big ones can decide the result, and MDD shows the deepest drop in the window. Everything here is past 90-day data and says nothing about what comes next.

Common questions

Do both conditions have to happen on the same bar?

Yes. The band cross and the RSI cross of 50 must land on one bar to count as a signal, which keeps the trade count low.

How does v1.1 differ from v1.2?

The signal math is the same. Here v1.1 is tested both ways and flips short on a sell signal, while v1.2 is tested long only, as its original title says.

Are the rules the same as the original script?

Signal math follows ChartArt's original script. Entries, exits and fills use the settingscout standard: signals at bar close, fills at the next open, per-trade fee included.

In short

In this data, BB+RSI had its highest positive share on 1h at 55%, and the TradingView default (200 · 2 · 6) was positive on 4 of 10 coins. On the same 1h, the gap between the top setting combination and the default average was 85.1 points.
